Lauren joined Bartlett Workplace as Special Counsel and practises in all aspects of workplace relations, employment law and work health and safety law. She has acted for a range of clients in industries including higher education (in particular Colleges and Universities), transport and logistics, emergency services, manufacturing, retail and construction as well as Local, State and Territory public sector/Government employers and Government Departments. 

Her experience includes advising clients in relation to all aspects of employment law, industrial relations, discrimination/equal opportunity and occupational health and safety including:

  • drafting of employment contracts, policies, and procedures;
  • legislation interpretation and compliance;
  • enterprise bargaining, enterprise agreement drafting and legal compliance and, for public sector clients, advising on the intersection between public sector laws and the bargaining regime under the Fair Work Act with respect to agreement content;
  • industrial action strategy and advice/representation in respect of related litigation;
  • drafting submissions and affidavits/witness statements for Fair Work Commission and Court proceedings and appearances in Fair Work Commission proceedings;
  • defence of discrimination claims brought in the Australian Human Rights Commission and State-based Commissions;
  • transfer of business and related strategy and drafting of contractual provisions regarding the transfer of employees;
  • redundancy and restructuring;
  • conducting due diligence in respect of employment and industrial relations-related matters for IPOs and M&As;
  • defence of adverse action and unfair dismissal claims;
  • management of long term ill and injured employees;
  • independent contractor/employee distinction and contractor work models;
  • conducting and advising on workplace investigations; and
  • work health and safety/occupational health and safety front-end advice (Australia-wide) and defence of WorkSafe prosecutions.
